facebook-messengerFacebook Messenger

Automate your Facebook Page's Messenger conversations with DM Champ. Receive messages in a unified inbox, respond with the AI bot, and monitor post comments for engagement opportunities.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Facebook Messenger to DM Champ, make sure you have:

  • A Facebook Page for your business

  • A Meta Business account (business.facebook.com) with admin access to the Page

  • Admin or editor access to the Facebook Page

Note: Personal Facebook profiles cannot be connected - only Facebook Pages are supported.

Connecting Messenger to DM Champ

Facebook Messenger uses the same connection process as Instagram. If you have already connected your Instagram account, Messenger may already be available.

  1. In DM Champ, go to Settings in the left sidebar.

  2. Navigate to Account.

  3. Find the Connect Facebook / Instagram option.

  4. Click Connect.

  5. You will be redirected to Facebook's login page.

  6. Log in with the Facebook account that manages your Page.

  7. Review and grant the requested permissions:

    • Page messaging - allows DM Champ to read and send Messenger messages

    • Page management - allows DM Champ to access your Page information

    • Instagram messaging (optional) - also connects Instagram DMs if you have a connected Instagram account

  8. Select the Facebook Pages you want to connect.

  9. Click Done to complete the authorization.

After authorization, DM Champ will detect your connected Pages and begin receiving Messenger conversations.

Tip: You can connect multiple Facebook Pages at once during the authorization flow. Each Page can be linked to different campaigns within DM Champ.

How Incoming Messages Are Handled

When someone sends a message to your Facebook Page through Messenger:

  1. Facebook automatically notifies DM Champ about the new message.

  2. DM Champ creates or updates the contact record for the sender.

  3. The message appears in your Inbox in real time.

  4. If an AI bot is active on the associated campaign, it generates and sends a response automatically.

  5. Read receipts are tracked when you or the contact reads a message.

Messages you send directly through Facebook's own Page interface are automatically filtered out so they do not appear as duplicates in DM Champ.

Note: Like Instagram, media files from Messenger have temporary links. DM Champ automatically saves copies of all photos, videos, and files so they remain accessible in your inbox long-term.

Creating Campaigns for Messenger

To automate responses and engage contacts through Facebook Messenger:

  1. Go to Campaigns and create a new campaign or edit an existing one.

  2. In the campaign settings, set the channel to Messenger.

  3. Select the connected Facebook Page.

  4. Configure the AI bot with:

    • Bot instructions - Define how the AI should respond, including brand voice and rules.

    • FAQ - Add common questions and answers for accurate bot responses.

    • Active hours - Set when the bot should be active (e.g., 24/7 or only outside business hours).

  5. Save and activate the campaign.

When the campaign is active, incoming Messenger messages from contacts will receive AI-powered responses.

Comment Monitoring

DM Champ can monitor comments on your Facebook Page posts and respond automatically.

How It Works

  1. A user comments on one of your Facebook Page posts.

  2. DM Champ detects the comment automatically.

  3. Based on your campaign configuration, DM Champ can:

    • Send the commenter an automated Messenger message.

    • Assign the commenter to a campaign for follow-up.

    • Trigger a specific AI-powered conversation flow.

Setting Up Comment Monitoring

  1. Go to your Campaign settings.

  2. Enable Facebook comment monitoring.

  3. Optionally, select specific posts to monitor (or monitor all posts).

  4. Define trigger keywords in comments that should activate the automation.

  5. Configure the automated response.

  6. Save and activate.

Only new comments trigger automations - comment edits and deletions are ignored.

Tip: Comment-to-Messenger automation works well for lead generation. Create a post asking people to comment a keyword, and DM Champ will automatically start a Messenger conversation with each commenter.

Troubleshooting

Facebook Page Not Appearing After Connection

  • Verify you are logged in with a Facebook account that has admin access to the Page.

  • Ensure the Facebook Page is published (not in draft/unpublished state).

  • Check that you selected the Page during the Facebook login and authorization step.

  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting through Settings > Account.

Not Receiving Incoming Messages

  • DM Champ handles the technical setup automatically, so start by checking the basics:

  • Confirm that your campaign is active and the channel is set to Messenger.

  • Send a test message from a personal Facebook account to your Page via Messenger.

  • Verify the Page is connected in your DM Champ Settings.

AI Bot Not Responding

  • Ensure the AI bot is enabled on the campaign.

  • Check that the campaign's active hours include the current time.

  • Verify the contact is assigned to the correct campaign.

  • Check your credit balance - AI responses require credits.

Comments Not Being Detected

  • Make sure comment monitoring is enabled in your campaign settings.

  • DM Champ manages the technical setup automatically, but if issues persist, try disconnecting and reconnecting your Facebook Page.

  • Check that the comment matches your configured trigger keywords (if you enabled keyword filtering).

  • Only new comments trigger automations - comment edits are not detected.

"Permissions Error" During Connection

  • Make sure you are logging in with the Facebook account that has admin access to the Meta Business account.

  • Verify that your Facebook Page is in good standing with no policy violations.

  • Re-authorize the connection and make sure to grant all requested permissions.

Best Practices

  • Respond promptly. Facebook tracks your Page's response time and displays it publicly. Fast AI-powered responses help maintain a good response rate badge.

  • Set up comprehensive FAQ data so the AI bot can handle the most common questions without human intervention.

  • Use comment monitoring strategically to convert post engagement into Messenger conversations.

  • Keep conversations relevant. Only message users about topics related to why they contacted your Page.

  • Monitor conversations regularly. Review AI responses to ensure quality and step in when human interaction is needed.

  • Respect user preferences. If a user asks to stop receiving messages, use the "Do Not Disturb" feature in DM Champ to honor their request immediately.
