# Refer a friend

## Overview

Every DM Champ account owner has a personal referral code. Share it with someone who is about to sign up. When they enter your code and make their first purchase, you both receive 1,000 bonus AI credits. There is no limit to how many people you can refer.

Your code lives under **Settings → Refer a friend**, together with a ready-to-send message and the list of people who used it.

## How it works

1. Open **Settings → Refer a friend** and copy your code (it looks like `ABCD-EFGH`). The page also has a share message you can paste into WhatsApp, email or a post.
2. Your friend creates their account and types your code into the **Referral code** field on the signup form. If they forget, they can still enter it under **Settings → Refer a friend** during their first 7 days.
3. As soon as their first purchase lands, 1,000 bonus credits are added to your account and 1,000 to theirs. Both of you get a notification and an email.

The bonus credits are added to your purchased credits, so they never expire with a monthly renewal.

## What counts as a first purchase

- Activating a lifetime deal licence (for example an AppSumo licence) on the new account, any tier.
- The first paid invoice of a monthly or yearly plan.

A free trial on its own does not trigger the bonus. If your friend enters your code after they already bought, the credits are added the moment the code is accepted.

## Entering a code

- The code can be entered at signup, or in **Settings → Refer a friend** while the account is less than 7 days old.
- One code per account. Once a code is accepted it cannot be changed or removed.
- You cannot use your own code, and a code from another account registered to the same email or payment details is refused.
- Codes are not case sensitive, and you can type them with or without the dash.

## Refunds

If the referred purchase is refunded, the 1,000 bonus credits are removed from both accounts. If some of those credits were already spent, the balance goes down to 0 and no further; nothing is charged and the account keeps working.

## The referral list

The **Refer a friend** page lists everyone who used your code with their email masked (for example `j***@g***.com`), the status of each referral and the total credits you have earned so far:

- **Pending**: the code was accepted, the first purchase has not happened yet.
- **Credited**: both of you received the bonus.
- **Reversed**: the purchase was refunded and the bonus was taken back.

## Who can take part

Referral codes are for account owners. Team members and client accounts under an agency do not have a code and cannot enter one.

## Referral codes and the affiliate program

The referral code is separate from the [affiliate program](affiliate-program.md). A referral code rewards both sides with credits; an affiliate link pays a cash commission to approved partners. A referral code never turns you into an affiliate, and an affiliate's commissions are not affected by referral codes.
